David has over 40 years in the residential and commercial construction industry. Originally from Chicago, David worked on high-rise construction through the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
In 1982 David opened a General Contracting firm that specialized in new home construction, high-end kitchens and baths, Victorian rehabs, and commercial office and retail build-outs. That firm gained success and notoriety for 20 years. In 2001 David took the position of Building Commissioner in Brookfield, IL, where he worked closely with the mayor and city council until 2004.
After receiving multiple certifications from the International Code Council and because he was seeking warm weather, David accepted a position as Project Manager of Quality and Code Compliance with Capri Engineering in Fort Lauderdale. Through 2011, David inspected multiple high rises and mixed-use structures with his staff of 40. At that time David also became Florida-licensed as a Building Inspector and Building Code Administrator.
Recruited to Marion County in 2012, David became the Chief Building Official for Marion County, overseeing construction work for over 335,000 residents. After a five-year presence at Marion County, David wanted to get back to his roots. Assisting Steve Allen of Tallen Builders, LLC during 2017 with several large, high-end custom projects, David applied for his Florida CGC License, successfully tested in multiple categories, and then received State of Florida approval for his Certified General Contractors License through the State Licensing Board.
His new business, Construction Concepts Group Of Ocala, continues to allow David to use his vast experience to deliver a superior construction product, on-time, well-designed and within budget.
David stated, “I am so glad to be back where it all started. Working with customers to help them fulfill their construction needs."
David's accreditations and recognition don’t stop there. He won several awards for his design-build concepts from such entities as The Koehler Company, National Kitchen & Bath Association, Chicago Builder Magazine, Habitat for Humanity, Chicago Building Trades Association, Las Olas Magazine, Designer Decks International, and the Brookfield Historical Society.
